Designing a school in Sumba

Sumba’s future is in the hands of Sumba people.

Our Balinese craftsmen have been living in Sumba for months now; their resilience while working away from home in a tough environment is inspiring. The Balinese builders actually live on site and interact with Sumbanese people around the site. Because they are Balinese, they are known for their cooking skills, so the neighbors bring meat or vegetables for them to cook and then join them. Connecting cultures through craftsmanship and food!

We hope this bamboo campus will lead the students to question and realize that advancement/development does not have to mean stock standard stereotype concrete buildings. Bamboo and other traditional materials are future-proof.
